ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Being an artist is so much more than creating physical works of art. It is being on a constant quest for discovery, knowledge, clarity, and insight into perception, thought, dreams, emotion, habits, mediocrity, and brilliance. Being an artist happens when you have the desperate need to communicate to and inform an audience, even if it's just yourself. Being an artist means reinterpreting the life you’ve lived into a reimagined form that can speak to others. The title of “artist” dignifies an individual as a storyteller. I choose to create to showcase the beauty and intricacy of God's creation. I am typically inspired by emotions and history to create my art. When I draw a portrait, I almost always choose an evocative image or individual that has or appears to have a story or emotion behind it. Many of my pieces are dramatic and striking, and usually convey a story.

          My greatest joy in art is showcasing the beauty and depth of history and the human mind. Behind every person is a lifetime full of stories, overflowing with emotions and inner thoughts that cannot otherwise be expressed. I try to extrapolate a story behind every piece, making every artwork I create a vessel for storytelling and vulnerability. I want my art to serve as a means of communication and connection among no bounds— a challenge to the boundaries of society, bridging contemporary culture with our ancestors and predecessors— because even if the artist dies, the art never will.

PROFILE

Madeline Daniels is a contemporary artist whose talents range from abstract and representational paintings of oil and acrylic mediums to hyperrealistic charcoal drawings and mixed media designs. She is based in Newport Beach, California and has received great recognition amongst the orange county art community.

"I STAND" EXHIBITION- January 2018-Current

My piece "I Said No" for sexual assault awareness is displayed at Orange Lutheran's "I Stand" Art Show in the Nechita Gallery.

ORANGE COUNTY FAIR- June-August 2017

Mixed media artwork "Garden Girl" was displayed at the Orange County Fairgrounds.

SANTA ANA ART WALK 2017- June-August 2017

Mixed media portrait, "Jamison," was selected for display at the Santa Ana Art Walk.

ART AND DESIGN CONTRIBUTOR- October 2017- Current

Artistic contributor to high school's student-run magazine, and designs and art pieces featured in the monthly publications.

FREELANCE ART TEACHER- March - August 2017

Private art tutor for children to learn the basics of drawing and painting.

PUBLISHED IN “Creative Expressions” - Published Fall 2017

Artwork was published in high school's promotional fundraising publication, which featured select artists.

STORY INTERN AT MARINERS CHURCH- June-August 2017

Worked as an intern at Mariners Church Irvine as part of the story team, creating promotional and testimonial videos, as well as transcribed interviews, wrote blog posts, edited videos, and created a published art piece for global partner in Germany.

CLOTHING DESIGN- Winter 2016

Collaborated with artist Jack Garell, painting a denim & suede jacket for his 2D Design Portfolio.

ORPHAN PORTRAITS- Winter 2016

Drew portrait of orphan in Uganda for Orange Lutheran’s Service Day, delivered to the child the following summer.

PROCESS ART SHOW- September-October 2016

Drawings "Gigi" and "Framed" were displayed in the Process Art Show at Orange Lutheran High School, along with sketchbooks and mood boards.
